Support LWIS CiS, & Donate in Mariam's Name

Hello everyone, my name is Sara and I have started this fundraiser in support of a school that is doing it tough in Beirut, Lebanon. This fundraiser is especially important as it honors a very special student who attended this school back in 2004, but who lost her battle to cancer last year. Her name was Mariam Klait and she was my dearest friend.
For anyone that doesn’t know, the financial and economic situation in the country is on a downward spiral, which has put severe strains on an already struggling education system. The current condition of the country is so overwhelming that many (including myself) feel helpless and emotionally paralyzed as to how and who to help first.
Learning of the struggles that LWIS- CiS is going through, just to keep their doors open, simply broke my heart for two reasons. The first being, no child or young person should ever have their education compromised as this is their ticket to a successful adult life; and the second reason being, knowing the impact it would have had on Mariam.
Anyone that knew Mariam was better for it. She was genuine, kind, smart and had a heart of absolute gold. She was the epitome of all that was most unique and her hunger to learn was second to none. Whenever I close my eyes and picture her, I see her curled up, legs crossed and clutching a book. Mariam loved books!
Her gift to me when I was pregnant with my daughter was a series of children books each with a personalized message. One message read:
“Building Baby’s First Library!!! Books meant the world to me growing up and I want to share that gift with our little one. Now, you’ll have to read to her every night”
I know undoubtedly that if Mariam were still with us she would have donated whatever she could to support the school she once attended. The school that helped her achieve her long term goals and prepare her for the world ahead.
Any contribution is appreciated and will go toward the running expenses of the school and financial aid for the current students.
Should we reach our goal amount, LWIS- CiS will commemorate your generosity with a plaque with Mariam’s name engraved on it and placed at the library.
Making sure every child has the best chance at life is something we can all get behind. I know it will make Mariam proud and help keep her legacy alive.
