My name is Michelle Worsham, and I am doing this GoFundMe for my parents, Chuck and Ginny Maskill, and my family. 
 
My dad, Chuck, fell and broke his hip last October, which resulted in surgery. When that happened, he lost his supplemental income with EMU basketball, as well as his ability to do all of the things around the house that he had been doing. 
 
Since that time, there have been a variety of related and unrelated health concerns that have arisen, one of which is a leaking heart valve. He has been in and out of the hospital and rehab for the past 8 months and is no closer to being back to his "old self." One of the concerns is a pressure sore on his foot. This has to heal for the doctors to replace his valve. On his last procedure to improve his leg circulation, his heart stopped due to a reaction to a medication he was given. He was resuscitated but lost the progress he had made up to that point. 
 
During his last hospital stay, the family decided to do at-home Hospice care and to focus on his wound care so we can move forward with everything else. 
 
Hospice covers most things needed for his care, but it does not cover everything. The piece that is missing is human help for day-to-day tasks. The bulk of his care has fallen on my mom and my brother, who is the main income of the household, and, for the summer, myself. If needed, I also plan on taking time off under FMLA. Rob and I have families that depend on our incomes, so time off is not a long term solution for either of us. My mom also has health challenges and she is unable to care for him on her own. 
 
We would like Dad to recover; however, to do that, we would need to hire a physical therapist to help him get mobile again. This is something that Hospice does not cover, and his insurance will cover either Hospice care or therapy, but not both. We will also have to hire a home health aide to come in and assist my mom, so Rob and I can work as much as possible. 
 
In addition to my dad, Rob has Maddie, who splits her time between his home and her mom's, who has her own medical procedures and surgeries this summer. This is a lot on Rob, and I would like to find a way to lessen that responsibility. 
 
In the few days that my dad has been home, both their water heater and stove quit working. This is something that my brother didn't plan on having to replace, in addition to the cost of making minor changes to the house to make everyone more comfortable. 
 
This will likely be a long journey for our family, and I would like to take the financial strain out of the equation for everyone so we can focus on Chuck, a loving spouse and father, and his care.
