Help Fund an Eagle Scout Project at Jerusalem Mill Village

Hello! My name is Christopher Sipes, and I’m currently working toward the rank of Eagle Scout—the highest achievement in Scouting. For my Eagle Scout Service Project, I will be designing and installing a series of custom-made, weather-sealed metal signs featuring QR codes throughout Jerusalem Mill Village, a historic site in Harford County, Maryland.

Each QR code will link to an online page that provides in-depth historical information about the specific building, landmark, or trail where the sign is located. These signs will allow visitors to engage with the site at their own pace through self-guided educational content accessible from their smartphones—enhancing the experience for individuals, families, students, and tour groups alike.

Why This Project Matters

Jerusalem Mill is a site rich in American history, but many of its stories can only be told through printed brochures or guided tours. This project brings technology and history together to make the past more accessible to today’s visitors.

By installing QR signs:

• We enhance community access to local history.

• We support environmental sustainability by reducing the need for paper materials.

• We aid preservation efforts by reducing physical signage and wear on the site.

• We make learning more inclusive and engaging for tech-savvy visitors, younger audiences, and individuals with mobility challenges.

The signs will be securely mounted to existing posts or structures to maintain the historical integrity of the site while minimizing environmental impact.
