<div>I am reaching out on behalf of our incredible 16-year-old niece, Chloë, and her loving parents— my brother-in-law Justin Nadeau and sister-in-law Sue Garner —as she faces the most difficult challenge of her life.

<div>In May 2025, Chloë began experiencing unexplained leg/ankle pain. A visit to her family physician led to diagnosis of “flat foot” and custom orthotic inserts.  The pain did not subside, and escalated quickly, leading to an emergency hospital visit in July 2025, which revealed that a tumour had splintered her tibia. We then received the devastating diagnosis: osteosarcoma, a rare and aggressive bone cancer—the same kind that took the life of Canadian hero Terry Fox.

<div>Since then, everything has moved at lightning speed. Within weeks, Chloë began intensive chemotherapy. And now, after weeks of fighting, we've been given heartbreaking news: in order to save her life and stop the cancer’s spread, Chloë will need to undergo a below-the-knee amputation.

</div>
<div>At just 16, she should be focused on school, friends, and dreaming about her future—not facing hospital stays, chemo rounds, and life-altering surgeries. And yet, through it all, Chloë has shown courage, grace, and resilience beyond her years.

<div>Our family is doing everything possible to support her, but the emotional and financial toll is immense. While we’re grateful for the care Chloë is receiving through CHEO, the costs are overwhelming. With one or both of her parents needing to take extended time off work, expenses are mounting—travel for treatment, medical supplies, assistive devices, and urgent home modifications to accommodate her new mobility challenges.

Une première visite chez son médecin de famille a mené à un diagnostic de « pied plat » et à la prescription de semelles orthopédiques sur mesure. La douleur ne s’est pas atténuée et s’est rapidement intensifiée, ce qui as provoqué une visite a l’urgence de l’hôpital en juillet 2025, qui a révélé qu’une tumeur avait fracturé son tibia. Nous avons reçu un diagnostic bouleversant : un ostéosarcome, un cancer des os rare et agressif — le même type de cancer qui a coûté la vie au héros canadien Terry Fox.

<div>Depuis, tout s’est enchaîné à une vitesse vertigineuse. En quelques semaines à peine, Chloë a commencé une chimiothérapie intensive. Et aujourd’hui, après des semaines de lutte acharnée, une nouvelle déchirante est tombée : pour sauver sa vie et stopper la propagation du cancer, Chloë devra subir une amputation de la jambe, sous le genou.
</div>
<div>À seulement 16 ans, elle devrait pouvoir se concentrer sur l’école, ses amis et rêver à son avenir — pas sur les séjours à l’hôpital, les traitements et une chirurgie aussi radicale. Et pourtant, malgré tout cela, Chloë fait preuve d’un courage, d’une grâce et d’une résilience qui nous laissent sans voix.

<div>Notre famille fait tout son possible pour l’accompagner, mais le poids émotionnel et financier est énorme. Même avec le soutien précieux du CHEO, les dépenses s’accumulent rapidement : déplacements pour les traitements, fournitures médicales, équipements d’aide à la mobilité et rénovations urgentes à la maison pour adapter son environnement à sa nouvelle réalité.
