Support Char's Battle Against Triple Negative Breast Cancer
Donation protected
On December 4, Char was diagnosed with early stage triple negative breast cancer after identifying a lump. Because she was a strong advocate for herself, she got in for a mammogram which revealed the tumor. After a biopsy the diagnosis was given. Char met with a medical team including oncology and surgery. Today she had an MRI (at 6am, ugh) which identified the tumor size as 2cm. There was no other cancer in her body, and it is not in the lymph nodes, which was some excellent news in all this. Genetic testing did reveal she carries the BRCA gene, which carries a higher risk of cancer.
What will happen from here on out Dec 18, Char will have outpatient surgery to place her chemotherapy port. Monday, Dec 23, she will begin chemotherapy treatment, as this is what the cancer type best responds to. The first 8 treatments will take place every 2 weeks, and then increase to weekly for the next 12. As if that’s not enough, she will then undergo a double mastectomy to reduce future risk due to the BRCA gene.
