Hello, my name is Carter Brotsky, I am 15 years old. I was born with a neural tube defect called Spina Bifida. I have very little sensation from my waste down but with leg braces called AFOs I can walk. I am a part time wheel chair user, so that I can keep up with my friends and family. I will be starting 10th grade soon. Since I was about 4 years old I have wanted a service dog, we went to an event at Memorial Stadium (Go Big Red) I saw a little girl with a service dog, the dog was helping the little girl walk, I thought that would be something that would help me. My mom started researching about service dogs and started following this VLOG of Team AMC Ana and Ana got a mobility dog from 4 Paws for Ability, so my mom researched for a very long time to make sure that 4 Paws was a good company. We filled out an application and turned in all of the required paperwork. Fast forward a couple of years here we are, nearing our time of getting the much anticipated mobility dog.
We are here humbly asking for you to help us raise the last leg of our adventure to this journey. I am so excited to know that I could have my dog in the next 6-9 months. This dog will help me with balance, push handicapped door buttons, take my socks off, help me take my jacket off and keep my safe while out and about in my community. We have to travel to Ohio to go to training with the dog, so I can learn how to work with the dog properly, so the dog will get to know me and learn how it can help me best. We will be at training for 10-14 days. We will be traveling by car. This money will help us pay for travel and lodging expenses.
If you have read this far thank you for your support. Please share my story! I am looking forward to growing into adulthood with a mobility service dog to help me be more independent in my community.
