Hello! My name is Cari Carreno, and I play the Tuba. I’m a freshman in college at the University of the Incarnate Word. I’m majoring in nursing and I also am a member of the Marching Cardinals Band! You’re probably wondering as a nursing major why would I spend my summer marching & playing the tuba rather than studying during the summer? Well, when I play the tuba I feel like it’s an escape from reality and something that brings me joy. I know that I will always have it as a hobby because I really enjoy listening to and playing music. I have played the tuba since I was in the 6th grade as did all three of my brothers, my dad, and my tio Edward, who inspired me to play the tuba. All throughout middle school and high school I strived to get better at my instrument, then I realized it was a true passion and talent I had for the tuba. My senior year of high school I didn’t get to march because I had the amazing opportunity to be head Drum Major! It was an eye opening and amazing experience that I would do again if I had the opportunity. Being the Drum Major helped me realize how tough I can be and to push myself to be the best I can be. Soon after, I started watching Drum Corps at the Alamo Dome and I was truly inspired by the performances but felt I wasn’t good enough. This past summer someone close to me helped me realize that I have the strength to go above and beyond my limits, to be the best and to audition for Genesis. I auditioned and got a contract. I was so proud of myself for accomplishing something so big. I love to perform because it’s such a life changing feeling. As a prepare for this exciting journey with Genesis I wanted to ask for your help in funding this experience. The tuition is $5,350 I will be paying most of the fees on my own however, I would really appreciate the extra help to make this dream come true! Please consider helping me reach my goal to march this summer one last time before my nursing journey begins. :)
