<div>Camilo is a sixth grader who has worked so hard to get where he is today. As his teacher, I’ve had the privilege of watching him grow into a kind, respectful, and caring young man. He has never let autism limit him. With the love and support of his parents and older brothers, he’s built friendships, joined activities, and found confidence—especially on the basketball court, his favorite place to be.

<div>Outside of school, Camilo also served as a monaguillo (altar server) at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Anthony, NM, showing his faith and willingness to help others.

<div>He was so excited to graduate, go on his field trip, start middle school, and play basketball with his friends.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>But everything changed overnight.
</div>

</div>
<div>Camilo was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), an aggressive cancer, and is now in the hospital beginning an intense fight. Instead of celebrating milestones, he is facing long hospital stays, oxygen support, and chemotherapy.

<div>His mom has not left his side, and his dad is working while traveling back and forth from Anthony, NM to El Paso Children’s Hospital to be with him. Right now, their focus is simply getting Camilo through this.

<div>Camilo has touched so many lives. He is the kind of kid who tries, who listens, and who truly cares.

<div><strong>We are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and donations for Camilo. Because of you, his family has felt supported during one of the most difficult times of their lives. Every message, share, and contribution has truly meant so much.</strong>

<div><strong>We wanted to share an important update. Camilo continues to fight with so much strength, but recent results have shown that he will need a bone marrow transplant as part of his treatment. This means a longer and more intensive journey ahead.</strong>

<div><strong>At this time, Camilo will continue receiving chemotherapy for the next few months. After that, he will need to travel out of state for the transplant and remain there for several months during recovery, while doctors also work to find a compatible donor.</strong>

<div><strong>With these new developments, the financial and emotional demands on his family have grown significantly. Between extended hospital stays, travel, housing, and time away from work, the road ahead is a long one.</strong>

Como su maestra, he tenido el privilegio de verlo crecer no solo académicamente, sino también como persona. Es un niño amable, respetuoso y con un corazón que se preocupa por los demás. Nunca ha dejado que el autismo lo limite. Con el amor y apoyo de sus padres y hermanos mayores, ha formado amistades, participado en actividades y ha ganado confianza en sí mismo, especialmente en la cancha de baloncesto, su lugar favorito.
