<div>Pastor Robert Roberts has been serving at Word of Life Slavic Baptist Church of Spartanburg for the last six years. The kids in our church affectionately call him Big Bob. Bob, lovingly and faithfully, preaches to adults Sunday after Sunday, then leads the children’s church, and stays long after the services to listen to kids' stories or just to give a big hug or a fist bump. Very often, you will find him counseling some adult member of the church long after the church service has been completed.

<div>Bob Roberts served at Wild Christian Camp as an assistant director of the junior camp program for over 20 years before he joined Slavic Church in 2019. He has truly dedicated his adult life to presenting the Gospel of Jesus Christ to children in a way they can easily understand. He is also the author of the Kids for Truth curriculum, which is currently being used by over 1,000 churches across the USA for children’s evangelistic clubs.

<div>In October of 2023, Bob was diagnosed with colon cancer, and for the next two years, our church witnessed an amazing testimony of God’s grace through suffering in Bob's life. Week after week, despite the debilitating effects of chemotherapy, Bob would still come to church to preach and teach as much as he possibly could. He suffered profoundly from nausea, neuropathy, and severe weakness due to chemotherapy, but his face always shone with joyful trust in the sovereign will of his Heavenly Father. Throughout all that time of ministry and cancer treatments, Bob refused to be financially compensated by the church, even as he used his  savings to cover living expenses and high health insurance premiums and deductibles.

<div>However, just a few weeks ago, in January of 2025, our dear brother and pastor Bob began to feel pain in his liver area. After various laboratory tests and scans, doctors discovered two tumors in his liver. Last week, Bob received biopsy results that confirmed the tumors were cancerous. This means he is now considered to have stage four cancer. Please pray that God would do the impossible, heal Bob’s body, and extend Bob’s life and ministry for His own glory. Over the next few days, his family is especially asking for prayer for God’s guidance in making decisions regarding Bob’s possible treatments and care. As of now, Bob is scheduled to start aggressive and expensive treatments at a cancer research facility in Phoenix, AZ. He should know within a few weeks if these treatments may be effective for remission of the cancer.

<div>Please pray that the Lord would grant our brother Bob even more special grace of faith and steadfastness of hope in the face of this devastating news. We know that Bob's greatest desire is to magnify and glorify the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, "...whether by life or death." (Phil. 1:20). Please also consider giving financially to support Bob and his family. They have depleted their savings going through colon cancer treatments over the last two years. Please consider generously supporting this faithful servant of the Lord Jesus as he and his family going through yet another valley of pain and suffering.
