Help The John Newman Honeybee Company Grow!
Hello, my name is Nikkia Rowe. In 2019, I launched The Honeybee Company with a vision rooted in legacy, sustainability, and self-determination. Our ancestors understood the land, the power of nature, and the sacred relationship between people and the earth. We are continuing that tradition by building a Black-owned beekeeping business that not only produces high-quality honey but also nurtures our community, teaches our youth, and protects our pollinators.
Why We’re Raising $50,000
Beekeeping is more than a business for us—it’s an act of resistance, self-sufficiency, and healing. We are expanding to a full-scale commercial operation, and to do that, we must grow to at least 50 colonies this year. However, an unexpected financial setback has slowed our progress. With your support, we can push forward and secure our future.
What Your Support Helps Us Build
1. Land Ownership & Apiary Expansion
For four years, we’ve relied on borrowed space, limiting our growth. It’s time to establish a permanent home for our bees. Land ownership is power, and securing our own apiary space will allow us to build generational wealth while protecting the bees that sustain our ecosystem. Maryland requires fencing and land improvements, which will also be covered by these funds.
2. Community Education & Youth Training
Beekeeping teaches patience, responsibility, and the power of working in harmony with nature. Our mission includes passing this knowledge down to the next generation by providing: Bee suits for children so they can safely learn and engage, more apprenticeship opportunities to train future Black beekeepers, workshops on pollinators, food sovereignty, and natural healing.
3. Strengthening Our Bee Stock & Expanding Honey Production
To sustain and expand our work, we need to diversify our honeybee genetics and invest in better extracting equipment. This will increase our honey yield and ensure the health of our colonies.
Why This Matters
Bees are sacred. They are the keepers of balance in nature, just as our ancestors were the keepers of wisdom in our communities. Supporting this campaign means investing in Black agriculture, self-sufficiency, and environmental justice. It means ensuring that our children see beekeeping as not just a trade, but as a path to independence and empowerment.
Every contribution, no matter the size, helps us build a future where we are self-sustaining, rooted in our traditions, and thriving together. If you can’t donate, sharing this campaign with others is a powerful way to support!
Thank you for believing in this mission. Let’s build something sweet, together.
