As some of you may know my dad was diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic colon cancer in May of 2017.  He had his first major operation to remove 3 feet of his colon and his appendix shortly after being diagnosed in May of 2017.  The cancer was very fast growing and spread to his abdomen, which led to his second major surgery, which was done in Feb 2018, to remove numerous cancerous masses from his abdomen and surrounding tissues. The doctors could not remove all the cancer at our local hospital so they referred my dad to UPMC in Pittsburgh for additional treatment/surgery.  He has completed a total of 17 chemo treatments and 3 major surgeries, which involved months of recovery with each surgery.  His most recent surgery was done on August 21, 2018 and he has been in the hospital since then resulting in a very lengthy recovery with numerous complications. The surgery was 9 hours total and the doctor had to remove more of his colon, portions of his small and large intestines , his gallbladder, a resection of his colon and intestines and other tumors. The cancer had spread way more than they initially thought and they had to remove tumors around his pancreas and diaphragm as well.  At the end of the surgery, the doctor completed HIPEC chemo (temperature regulated chemo directly into his abdomen) to hopefully kill all the microscopic cells remaining.  My dad has donated his cancerous tumors/tissues to the Hillman Cancer Center of Pittsburgh in hopes of finding a cure for future cancer patients. He is determined to beat this cancer so he can spend time with his family, his 3 year old granddaughter and meet his future granddaughter due in December 2018.  My mom has stayed by his side in Pittsburgh day and night since he had his surgery.  She has not been able to work at all.  At this point, she is on a leave of absence from work and her time off is now without pay.  This has put a huge financial burden on them both.  It is difficult to make ends meet with medical bills, utility bills and the cost of staying in Pittsburgh piling up.  I want to be able to help them out as much as I could financially to take some of the worry off of them.  We appreciate any prayers and/or donations you would like to provide.  God bless you all! Thanks for the kind words, prayers and support of those who have already reached out to us! Please share this for me and my family! Much love,  Ashley Adams
