<div>Christopher Tyson Wowak II (Ty), named after his late grandpa, was born on August 6, 2024, 5 weeks before his due date. He weighed 4lbs 13oz and he was perfectly healthy!

<div>Taylor (28), Ty’s mom, and Alex (24), dad, both first time parents, noticed he was constipated the weekend of September 6th. On Saturday they called their pediatricians office and the OnCall doctor called them back advising them to try using a thermometer with Vaseline and have him drink some apple juice. Sunday he was not any better and what stool they could get out was very hard. Monday, they took him to the doctor. She tried the thermometer and was able to get a piece of stool out. She suggested possibly an allergy to the formula he was on, so she gave them Nurtamigen to try and referred them to Manatee Diagnostics for an x-ray. According to the doctor, the x-ray looked normal. He was still uncomfortable and refused to drink a bottle. Tuesday morning around 9AM Taylor sent me a picture of Ty saying his belly is distended, he is lethargic, pale and won’t drink. I told her to get him to the hospital immediately. They were at All Children’s by 11AM. ER said his blood sugar and temperature were low. They took an x-ray and ultrasound and noticed an obstruction in his bowel. They tried doing a rectal irrigation and started him on antibiotics. At 4PM they moved him to a room as he continued to decline, and the decision was made to do surgery. They removed two pieces of his bowel and put his intestines in a silo (bag outside of his belly) so they could heal. Wednesday evening, they discovered a blood clot in his right arm, so they pulled the IV from that vein. They also cleaned out his intestines which is done every 48 hours when you have a silo. The respiratory team does CPT treatments every 4 hours to prevent pneumonia, and they are doing an ultrasound daily to check the clot in his arm. They started him on blood thinners to prevent more blood clots. Saturday morning, he went back to the OR and they put his intestines back inside his belly leaving two openings. One is for an ostomy bag and the other is for ileostomy. Following this procedure they had him paralyzed for 48 hours so he didn’t move allowing his insides to adjust to the pressure of being back inside his belly. Monday is day 6 on ventilator and they are concerned with his right lobe of lung. X-ray shows it is diminishing so they are increasing his respiratory treatments from 4 to 2 hours. They will do another ultrasound on his arm on Wednesday to check the clot. Today marks one week since this nightmare began. Seven days of praying relentlessly and believing God will show us Ty’s miracle. He is still sedated and in critical condition with a long road ahead. We don’t have answers yet as to why or how this happened. We may never know. When he is well enough for them to run tests to try and determine the cause they will do a biopsy of his colon to test for Hirschsprung’s disease. From things I have read it could be necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC). He still has at least 3 more weeks in the hospital before he can go home. In a few months, they will discuss another surgery to reconnect his bowels. Please continue to pray for a full recovery and if you can help, any donation is greatly appreciated. In Jesus name AMEN!
