My name is Tanya, and I am a close friend of the Garrett family. On October 6th, Shannon called to talk to me about what had been taking place that day. She shared some disturbing photos of bruises that were found on Baby Rayden Honeycutt's legs. Baby Rayden is Shannon's grandson. Shannon ended up filing a police report on Rayden's dad that night. Thanks to the swift follow-up by Detective Neal, Rayden's dad was arrested on child abuse charges, and the sweet baby boy was taken to the hospital to get checked out.
Initial reports showed that Rayden had sustained a head injury, 5 broken bones, and had bruises on his legs. The local ER referred for him to be taken to Vanderbilt Children's via ambulance that same night. CPS made the decision that Shannon will be best suited to care for Rayden. Upon further examination and tests, doctors at Vanderbilt determined that Baby Rayden had 3 skull fractures causing 2 brain bleeds and fluid on the brain, 14 rib fractures, a broken tibia, and a broken kneecap.
You can imagine the weight of suddenly finding yourself caring for a 2-month-old, but could you imagine suddenly being the primary care taker of a 2-month-old with a long road of recovery ahead? The poor sweet baby has endured more physical wounds than most of us will accrue over a lifetime. These injuries sound like you are talking about an MMA fighter that lost to an opponent in a significantly higher weight class.
All that being said, this family could use all the prayers and support we can manage to give them. Even if you can only do $5, that will cover a little gas to drive him to one of his many follow-up appointments at Vanderbilt Children's in Nashville.
Please share Baby Rayden's story and check back here for updates over time. Thank you for your support!
