The Back Story
It was only 3 short weeks ago that Phil and Melissa announced they were expecting their first child in March of 2019. After 2 1/2 years of waiting Melissa became pregnant after a painful journey and the help of IVF. The costs of the medications for this treatment is high not to mention the physical and emotional toll on a couple. It didn’t matter to these two, the journey was successful and they were pregnant.
The Unimaginable
On August 11, 2018 Phil Howard, Melissa’s husband, was killed in a devastating accident. That beautiful Saturday was a typical ride for Phil and his buddies. After lunch at Port Rowan they were headed East towards Turkey Point. Speed was not a factor, nor was alcohol. Phil was a solid rider, believed in safety, wore all protective gear and just the day before purchased a new helmet he proudly displayed on his Facebook wall. He died suddenly and tragically after veering off the road and hitting a steel fence. His riding mates were with him.
The Next Chapter
Phil was buried on August 17, 2018. Many family members, friends, riding buddies, team mates and co workers were there to say good bye to a man who will be remembered for his love of sports, his practical jokes and his smile. He never had the opportunity to be a Dad and Melissa finishes the journey without him.
The Future for Melissa and Baby Howard
Melissa is already a great mom. She has shown such courage and strength especially in the past week. They were eagerly looking forward to the week that followed to hear their precious ones heartbeat for the first time. Melissa went this past week alone to make sure all was well with their miracle baby and was told her little one is perfect. She posted this for friends and family who have been wondering;
“This week, with my life crashing around me, I have been ever conscious of the most important thing. Love and life continue to grow.” She goes on to say “In spite of all, I know I am blessed. I just wish with every atom in my body and every tear that escapes that Phil Howard were here to enjoy it with me. We dreamed for so long and we fought so hard. It seems like cruel irony for this to have happened. But everyone will help me show baby what daddy was like.”
