On Tuesday, February 20, 2018, we lost our beloved friend Austin (Dinh Phuong) Nguyen. Austin had always been a kind friend, an amazing coworker, a valuable employee, and a great son. So many of us who had the honor to know Austin looked up to him for inspiration. 

We are all devastated to learn about this news. We want to help ensure that his family have all the support they need. Please contribute in any way you can to help provide for his family as they go through this hard period.

As of now, Friday, 02/23/2018, 00:13 a.m. EST (02/22/2018, 9:13 p.m. PST) this campaign has raised $7,127 in 24 hours. We are deeply grateful and touched by all the love and support everyone has for Austin.

This campaign is managed by Michelle H. Vo (CA, USA)—who is in direct contact with Austin's brother, Thy Nguyen (Saigon, Vietnam)—who is in charge of donations in Vietnam, and Khanh Pham (VA, USA)—who takes care of donations from friends that need to use Paypal instead of doing it directly on GoFundMe.

After we reached our initial goal of US$5,000 this morning, we have decided to raise our goal up to US$8,000. We are more likely to raise the goal again once we get to US$8,000. The decision was made based on what we have learned about the expenses of this matter, what we have known about Austin, and because many of his friends want to help his family, just like how he used to help and support all of us. We plan to send the first batch of donations to his family once we transfer the donations in Vietnam to the States and we will keep updating on this page.

As far as we know, the funeral's date has not been scheduled. Whenever we get more information about the date and location, it will be posted here.

We truly appreciate your support, understanding, and respect for his family's (and our) privacy.

We have reached US$10,254 after three days, thanks to all the tremendously generous supports of Austin' friends, his friends' families, coworkers, and former teachers. 

As I mentioned in our first update, we planned to transfer the first batch of money after we received the donation from Vietnam. However, we have recently been told that his family's bank account info would be sent to us after the funeral so we can transfer the donations. So we decide to just keep the campaign active until then. 

Some one asked me if all of the donations here on GoFundMe would be given to Austin's family.

I just want to make it clear that yes, all the money donated on this platform will be transferred to his family, except a payment processing fee to GoFundMe, which is 2.9% + $0.30 on each donation (see here)

The fee is applied to both Personal Campaigns (like our campaign), and Certified Charity Campaigns (see here)

Now, we all want to send 100% of the money we have donated to Austin's family, but GoFundMe is a convenient platform that is also safe for everyone. Your donation is protected; we have to set up a withdrawal within 30 days of the first donation; and donations will be refunded if withdrawals are not set up within 90 days of receiving the first donation. UPDATE | Thursday, March 29, 2018

First of all, thank you to all of you who donated to this campaign. Together we have raised $10,960.00, surpassing all of our goals. We were finally able to initiate the withdrawal of the funds earlier today.

Per his family's wishes, Austin's uncle The Son Bui is the beneficiary and the funds will be transferred directly to him.

Total raised online: $10,960.00

Total fees: $379.14, which includes

GoFundMe platform (0%):($0.00)

Processing (2.9% + 0.30):($379.14)

Remaining total: $10,580.86

The Son Bui and his wife confirmed that the withdrawal has been set up. The amount they will receive is $10,580.86.

We will send out an update again once the transaction is complete.
