Asheville and the surrounding area has been destroyed. Electricity and water are out for most. The Asheville mayor estimates water service will take weeks to be fixed.
Roads are destroyed; local roads between towns, as well as major highways. Hwy 40 west of Asheville is broken and Hwy 26 north of Asheville as well, leaving Asheville and the surrounding areas with only two major highways in and out.
I've lived in the Asheville area for 11 years now; my food trucks were both destroyed in the flood in Swannanoa. My situation, however, is lucky compared to most in Swannanoa. Many roads and homes have been completely demolished. Businesses that will never recover. Lives lost.
Without food, water, gas, electricity, or cell service, I was lucky to be able to escape to Columbia, SC to stay with family. I plan to make a trip back to Asheville and I'd like to bring supplies with me.
Most of the area will continue to be without running water for weeks. Gas will be short and so will other supplies because of the limited highway access.
Anything you can give will be put towards bringing supplies into the area and be given directly to the residents there. Thank you for your support.
