<div>The baby had several medical issues:

<li>Complete AV defect (balanced) – a congenital heart defect involving holes in the center of the heart.
</li>
<li>Small closing PDA – a blood vessel that normally closes after birth is still open but getting smaller.
</li>
<li>ASD (Atrial Septal Defect) – a hole between the upper chambers of the heart.
</li>
<li>Severe PAH (Pulmonary Artery Hypertension) – high pressure in the lungs.
</li>
<li>Dilated RA &amp; LA – the heart’s upper chambers are enlarged.

<div>The baby has a “Complete AV Canal Defect (Balanced). In almost all cases, a Complete AV Canal Defect requires surgery.

<div>Here’s why:
</div>
<ul>
<li>This defect involves a large hole in the center of the heart.
</li>
<li>It causes too much blood flow to the lungs.
</li>
<li>Over time it can cause severe pulmonary hypertension (which the baby already has).
</li>
<li>Medicines alone cannot fix this defect.
</li>
