The medical bills are piling up - even though Arina has insurance, it doesn't cover 100%. Some visits to the doctor are $50 000 per visit. Oksana currently owes around $90 000. And as you can imagine, she isn't able to work and afford rent and other expenses. That's why we are raising the donations goal. Hope you can help!

From Oksana:

We are now in our 7th month of immunosuppressive therapy.

At the 6-month mark, the doctors ordered a second bone marrow biopsy because Arina’s blood counts were not improving the way they should have. The results came back showing only 10–20% marrow function (compared to 5–10% in the beginning). Although this is a slight increase, it’s still very far from what she needs.

The truth is — this means the therapy isn’t working. And now, we must prepare for the next step:

a bone marrow transplant.

This is a long and intense process. We’ve started consultations with transplant specialists, and we’re waiting for doctors to find the best possible donor match for Arina. Once that happens, we’ll begin the next stage of treatment — one that will require so much strength from our little girl.

We will be living in the hospital for at least two months. During this time, Arina will be in full isolation, because her immune system will be at its weakest. Every moment, every step, will need to be careful, protected, and supported.

This is a difficult road — emotionally, physically, and financially.

But Arina is brave. She’s fighting with all she has.

We are doing everything we can as a family — but we cannot do this alone.

My name is Anna Bondar, and I'm the founder of Ukraine House, a Ukrainian school in Charlotte, NC.

One of our students, a 7-year-old girl named Arina, has been with us since we opened in August of this year. Arina appeared perfectly healthy, and no one suspected that she was seriously ill—especially not her mom. However, about two months ago, Arina began developing bruises all over her body and was quickly admitted to the hospital.

After several tests, Arina was diagnosed with aplastic anemia. Since then, she has undergone numerous blood transfusions, and her test results are extremely concerning. Arina is about to undergo experimental immune therapy and may eventually need a bone marrow transplant.

Her mother, Oksana, has been devastated by the news. She fled Ukraine after the war began and now works as a cleaner while caring for Arina. Fortunately, Medicaid covers most of the medical expenses, but the family still faces many challenges. Oksana will be unable to work when Arina starts her treatment and is in the hospital for a lengthy period.

Despite the overwhelming situation, Oksana hesitated to ask for help, feeling that the suffering of children in Ukraine is far worse than her own. I had to convince her for weeks to start this campaign, and now we’re reaching out for support.

All donations will go directly to Oksana and Arina, helping to support them through this difficult time of treatment and, hopefully, recovery.

Мене звати Анна Бондар, я засновниця Української школи «Ukraine House» у Шарлотті, Північна Кароліна.

Одна з наших учениць, 7-річна дівчинка на ім'я Аріна, навчалася у нас з самого відкриття школи в серпні цього року. Аріна виглядала абсолютно здоровою, і ніхто не підозрював, що вона серйозно хвора — особливо її мама. Проте близько двох місяців тому у Аріни почали з’являтися синці по всьому тілу, і її терміново госпіталізували.

Після кількох обстежень Аріні поставили діагноз апластична анемія. З того часу вона перенесла багато переливань крові, але її аналізи надзвичайно тривожні. Скоро Аріна почне експериментальну імунотерапію і, можливо, їй буде потрібна пересадка кісткового мозку.

Мати Аріни, Оксана, була приголомшена цією новиною. Вона втекла з України після початку війни і зараз працює прибиральницею, піклуючись про Аріну. На щастя, Medicaid покриває більшість медичних витрат, але сім’я все одно стикається з багатьма труднощами. Оксана не зможе працювати, коли Аріна почне лікування і перебуватиме в лікарні протягом тривалого часу.

Попри складну ситуацію, Оксана довго вагалася просити про допомогу, вважаючи, що страждання дітей в Україні набагато гірше за її особисту трагедію. Я тижнями переконувала її розпочати цю кампанію, і тепер ми звертаємося до вас за підтримкою.

Усі пожертвування підуть безпосередньо до Оксани та Аріни, допомагаючи їм впоратися з важким періодом лікування і, сподіваємось, одужання.
