<div>Lo que debía ser un día de orgullo y alegría para nuestra familia terminó convirtiéndose en una pesadilla. Mi papá, Arcadio Ortega, y mi mamá, Veronica Arreola, iban de regreso a casa después de dejar a mi hermana menor, Veronica Ortega, en la Universidad Texas Tech para comenzar su carrera universitaria — un momento que habíamos soñado y por el que mis padres trabajaron durante años.

<div>Pero ese sueño se convirtió en angustia cuando fueron detenidos en el condado de Eastland, Texas.

<div>Un oficial del Departamento de Policía de Cisco los paró en lo que parecía ser una parada de tráfico de rutina. Pero en lugar de dejarlos continuar, el oficial contactó a ICE para verificar su estatus migratorio. Sin ninguna advertencia ni razón clara, se llevaron a mis padres a la cárcel del condado.

<div>Esta situación ha destrozado a nuestra familia. Estamos desesperados, tratando de entender cómo pudieron arrebatarnos a nuestros padres tan de repente. Mi hermana, que apenas comienza su etapa universitaria, ahora tiene que cargar con esta enorme tristeza e incertidumbre, cuando debería estar enfocada en su educación.

<div>What was supposed to be a day of pride and joy for our family turned into a nightmare. My dad, Arcadio Ortega, and my mom, Veronica Arreola, were on their way back home after dropping off my youngest sister, Veronica Ortega, at Texas Tech University to begin her college career — a moment we had all dreamed of and one my parents worked so hard to make happen.

<div>But that dream quickly turned into anguish when they were stopped in Eastland County, Texas.
</div>
<div>An officer from the Cisco Police Department pulled them over in what seemed like a routine traffic stop. But instead of letting them go on their way, the officer contacted ICE to verify their immigration status. Without warning or clear reason, my parents were taken to the county jail.
</div>
<div>In a few hours, ICE picked them up and transferred them to the South Texas Detention Complex, where they are still being held. They are separated from us, scared, and facing an uncertain future.
</div>
<div>My parents are not criminals. They are hardworking, loving people devoted to their family. For nearly a decade, they’ve owned and worked at a dry cleaning business. They raised their children with sacrifice and dedication, contributed to their community, and have been active members of their church. They are parents, grandparents, and the heart of our family.
</div>
<div>This situation has torn our family apart. We are devastated and trying to understand how our loving parents could be taken from us so suddenly. My sister, who just started college, now carries the weight of this trauma and uncertainty when she should be focused on her studies.
</div>
<div>We are asking for help to cover:

<div>Court and filing costs
</div>
<div>Basic support while they are detained
</div>
<div>No family should have to go through this. My parents were simply driving home after helping their daughter move into college. We need your help to bring them back to us — back where they belong.
