My name is Brenda. I am raising funds for my niece, April, who has been living with a genetic condition called NF1 (neurofibromatosis). NF1 is a rare genetic condition that causes tumors to grow on nerves and causes changes to the skin. There's no cure for NF1, but treatments can help manage symptoms.
While my niece has endured many tumor removal surgeries over the years, April recently underwent emergency surgery to remove a large tumor behind her left knee, leaving her with nerve damage, lack of sensation, and the loss of the use of her leg. April now uses a leg brace and will undergo long-term physical therapy in an attempt to regain mobility. During the surgery, not all of the tumor was able to be removed, and following a biopsy, she was advised the tumor was malignant, (cancerous). For this, the only treatment is radiation and chemotherapy.
April has never been able to manage her condition properly due to the cost of the treatments. With the latest news of the cancerous tumor and the additional treatments she requires, I have started this fundraiser to assist her in obtaining the necessary radiation, chemotherapy, and the medicine Koselugo, used to manage the progression of the tumors. More than anything, I am seeking prayers, but I am also looking for any financial contribution you are able to make to assist in helping my niece bring some sense of normalcy back into her life. April is a young, vibrant woman full of spirit, generosity, and faith. She maintains her career as a full-time accounting manager within the real estate and hotel industry. Unfortunately, in the Philippines, there is no disability pay or health insurance available like there is in the US. Coverage is nonexistent and services are costly.
I thank you for your support, prayers, and for sharing April's story.
