<div><strong>April and Michael Pena are facing an incredibly challenging year.</strong> Michael was diagnosed with Clear Cell Renal Carcinoma of the right kidney and an ultra-rare cancer called Epithelioid Hemangioendothelioma (EHE) of the liver. Genetic testing has revealed the presence of genes for an even more rare vascular sarcoma. On top of these diagnoses, Michael is scheduled for gall bladder removal surgery on June 26, 2025, due to polyps, sludge, and gallstones. During this procedure, his surgeon will also remove a lesion on his liver. Meanwhile, April has been living with a torn labrum in her left shoulder and will undergo surgery on June 6, 2025, to relieve her pain.

<div>Recently, April learned that her department is being laid off, leaving her without a job or medical insurance. Michael will also be missing two weeks of work to recover from his surgery. The financial strain is significant, as they face mounting medical bills, household expenses, and the cost of traveling to Houston for a consultation with a rare sarcoma specialist at MD Anderson. They will need to stay in Houston for several days for these critical appointments. Through all of this, they are also raising their son Nathan, who means the world to them and is a source of strength and hope.
