On October 22nd, 2025, around 11 pm, my husband Ansel was riding his bike home from work—a three-mile drive he's done a dozen times after we finally were able to purchase a bicycle for him on September 27th, 2025. He barely made the first mile when a reckless driver who was speeding ran into the back of his bike, causing Ansel to roll off the hood of the car. Thankfully, Ansel landed in the grass, but a car going 50-55 mph hitting a bicycle still caused damage.
Other than totaling the bike, Ansel has scrapes and bruises across his arms, legs, and back. He has had to receive staples on the back of his scalp, surgery to clean a nasty laceration on his leg before stitching it closed, surgery to implant a metal plate and screws to his heel, physical therapy, and missed wages with our jobs as we navigate these new restrictions in our life. With the severity of what this accident has caused, we have decided to also seek out a lawyer to help file against the driver who hit him.
This journey is only beginning and has already taken time and strain mentally and physically on both of us. We are seeking any assistance we can in order to cover any fees we'll have to face while dealing with these 10-12 weeks of his medical leave, dealing with legal representation, and dealing with the financial strains all of this has and will cause us.
Thank you in advance for any and all available help—whether it's dropping a dollar here or there, or simply sharing this to help bring awareness to our situation.
