Help Me Reach My Dream: AMDA NYC Bound
Hi, my name is Angel Ballard. I’m a 25-year-old actress, singer, and dreamer from Cleveland, Ohio, and I’m finally on the verge of stepping into the future I’ve always wanted. I just need help to make it happen.
Since I was a little girl, music and performing have been my escape, my safe space, and my purpose. I graduated from Cleveland School of the Arts where I majored in Vocal Music. Being surrounded by creative energy and passionate students helped me find my voice early on. I realized then that I didn’t just enjoy performing, I was made for it.
After high school, I knew I wanted to act and sing professionally. But like many artists, I was told to choose a “real career.” I took a break from college, and when I returned, I decided to study Small Business Management. The truth is, I actually enjoy business too. I’ve learned a lot, and I know those skills will help me in the future as I grow into entrepreneurship. But my heart still pulls me toward my first love, performing. I want to pursue both, but what I’m missing is that extra hands-on training to sharpen my craft as an actress and singer.
I’ve been thinking about auditioning for AMDA, the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, since 2017. I would visit the website, watch the videos, and imagine myself walking those halls, but fear, finances, and timing always got in the way.
That all changed on February 15, 2025. I finally auditioned. And I got in.
AMDA offered me a scholarship and sent me my financial aid award letter, which I’ve attached to this fundraiser. That letter reflects support for one academic year only. Since I’ve already used FAFSA while attending Cuyahoga Community College, where I currently hold a 3.8 GPA, have been accepted into the honors society, and made the dean's list, I’m unsure why I haven’t received any additional scholarships outside of AMDA. I’ve applied to several scholarships, but so far, I haven’t heard back from anyone.
Also, even though one of the documents says I’m set to start in the fall, I actually want to begin this summer. It’s more affordable and gives me a head start on the training I’ve been waiting so long for.
I’ve been working side gigs, staying focused, and doing all I can to prepare, but I can’t afford to do this alone. That’s why I’m asking for help.
This opportunity means the world to me. I want to show that a young woman from Cleveland, raised in a family that didn’t have much, can still rise and turn her passion into a real career. I want to take everything I’ve learned, from business to performance, and build a life filled with creativity, purpose, and impact.
If you believe in second chances, in chasing your dreams, or in the power of the arts, I’m asking you to believe in me.
Every donation, every share, and every kind word helps me get one step closer.
Thank you for reading my story and being a part of my journey.
Angel Ballard
