every picture tells a story, don't it
this picture could use some fleshing out though, lol.

there i was, out on an epic early morning trail ride with a couple of stablemates, when one of their horses fired a hoof out and got me in the shin. i'm speculating the bugs were pissing her off and she didn't really know my horse. no sense getting mad about it, i'ts done. i actually quite like the mare. i knew instantly it was broken. after an initial 'fight' response by my horse, she got a grip and carried me back to the barn, like the wounded soldier i was. she's used to sidling up to our mounting block for me to dismount, so that wasn't weird for her. i swung my bad leg over her back, landing on my good one. with considerable assistance, i got into a car and was transported to the ER at Wentworth Douglass Hospital.

they called me a blessedly short time after arriving. it was an open wound so surgery had to be immediate. i had not eaten and drank only sparsely that morning so that was good, and there was a good leg doc available. damage control was going well. next thing i know, i'm sporting a titanium rod from knee to ankle with a screw at each end. i am SO grateful for modern medicine and good surgeons, not to mention my beloved barn family, who have been killing me with loving kindness and delicious food since coming home.

there is however, the matter of bills. i was looking forward to a particularly busy fall, after a slower than expected summer. the state of NH does not have short term disability, i checked. if i can raise 3 months worth of bills, i can remain housed and stalled. i work for my horse's housing and if i can't play, i gotta pay, lol. trying to keep it humerus! (no tibia, lol!)
it's a tough ask. i don't feel great about it. if you can contribute, wonderful, i am extremely grateful and if not, i totally understand.

thanks for reading!
