I’m raising money to help my mom, Amy, cover expenses after tearing her rotator cuff. During the snowstorm in Wilmington, she was determined to see the snow on the beach. True to her independent spirit, she made her way down, slipped on ice, and fell directly on her shoulder, causing a full-thickness rotator cuff tear.

She’s scheduled for reconstructive surgery on March 14th—nearly two months after the injury. Recovery will be long: at least three months before she can begin working again and up to six months for full mobility, meaning she’ll be out of work or severely limited for nearly nine months. My mom is the owner and operator of her food truck Mommiez. Due to the physical nature of running a food truck, her return to work will likely be longer.

If you know my mom, you know she was diagnosed with diabetes in late 2023, which kept her out of work for almost a year. She worked hard to enter remission in late 2024 and upgraded her food truck to relaunch her business. After only a few months back, she suffered this injury. Now, with this injury and recovering from diabetes, she’ll have been without steady work for almost two years—which is a long-winded way of saying, money is tight.

During her initial recovery my mom will be staying with me for help with everyday things. Still, she will need to pay rent on her home as well as other bills. Any money raised here will go directly to her most pressing bills and other expenses during her recovery.
