<div>Augustine “Ammo” May-Ortiz, the 1½-year-old son of Investigator Gabriel May and Officer Ortiz, and grandson of Sergeant Ortiz, was diagnosed in September 2025 with Neuroblastoma, a rare childhood cancer that affects fewer than 1,000 children in the U.S. each year.

<div>Ammo is now in Jacksonville beginning what is expected to be a year-long treatment. His parents are facing overwhelming costs for care, the medical transport from Pensacola to Jacksonville, and time away from home, all while beside their little boy through the toughest time of his life.

<div>The May-Ortiz family has given so much to this department and to Springfield through their service and dedication. Today, they need us more than ever.
