<div>Hello everyone, I wanted to take the time to thank everyone who has already reached out and supported me. Despite working in Non-Profit healthcare, I am terrible at asking for help for myself. With encouragement from a former coworker (Shoutout to Shay Aka Ms. Henderson), I chose to create a GoFundMe as a last resort. On January 3rd, 2025 my Mother came by my apartment to drop off a Christmas present. I had not been answering my personal phone or my work phone (which is unlike my normal self). When I did not answer the door, my mother had my landlord unlock my apartment, where I was found on the floor unconscious and eventually confabulating while unable to walk. My mother called 911 and I was rushed to the hospital and quickly admitted. My mother believes I was unconscious and alone for several weeks and the hospital treated and kept me for two weeks. I have little memory of what happened, but I remember having extreme back pain and not being able to walk. On the 8th day in the hospital I felt like I had finally, "woken up" and asked where I was and what happened. I was informed that I was diagnosed with encephalopathy and Wernicke's Korsakoff Syndrome from vitamin b-1 deficiency due to past struggles with anorexia, bulimia, and alcoholism. I have no issues with these disorders currently, but the damage I caused to my body from past poor coping skills and overworking myself, made my condition irreversible. I currently attend physical therapy, occupational therapy, see a nutritionist, go to memory care, neurology, and psychiatry appointments. I am in the final stages for approval for disability due to short term memory loss, ataxic gait (unable to walk without a walker, reach high or low places, lift small amounts of weight, etc.), horizontal nystagmus, CSF spaces (Cerebrospinal Fluid spaces within the cavities of the brain and spinal cord), inability to drive, shower, cook, dress, take my dog outside, do laundry, climb stairs, and remember which medications I have or have not taken independently. I struggle to put on clothing, shoes, I leave the gas on or burn and break items if I attempt to do things on my own. I am currently rated within the 11% of high risk elderly patients at my physical therapy office. I fall often and run into objects with my walker and receive help from my sister and mother. However, there is not much assistance currently for single women my age who are not married and without children. I had a large savings, from the last two years with the Hopewell Center, that I used to pay my rent until recently. I am currently on step 3 of 5 for disability due to switching insurance plans and delays from my name being spelled wrong, my memory loss causing me to fill out documents improperly, and waitlists for treatment since January of 2025. I hope to continue to be an inspiration and to help others to the best of my ability, but my savings have run out and my grandmother has helped me for a large portion of my recent finances. I know so many people are struggling, and I hate asking for handouts. If anyone would like to donate $1 towards my rent this month or message me to Zelle my landlord Celia Fang.
