Young Female Playwright - Support our Web Series!

Donation protected
Young Female Playwright is an absurd, nightmarishly surreal dark comedy series about Millie, a nice middle-class white girl from the suburbs and the only child of doting parents.

YFP will examine, through a feminist lens, art-making in the time of social media, and the lengths artists can, should, and will go to protect themselves from online criticism and make art.

This project represents an exciting cross-over collaboration between Canadian artists from different mediums. In particular, and appropriate to the subject matter, this project is a collaboration from two producer-artists with primarily theatre backgrounds, and a producer-artists with a majority of their experience in digital series.

Young Female Playwright is currently in its early writing stages. We wish to form a mini-writing room to develop the scripts from first drafts to shooting drafts, with particular focus on the the build towards the climax, as well as the climax. All of this costs $$. We need your support to help our web series become a reality!

About the team:
Ellie Moon is a playwright who has had three plays receive major premieres in Toronto, at Crow’s Theatre, Nightwood Theatre and the Tarragon Theatre. Ellie’s feature film debut (written/starring), Adult Adoption, was a recent critical and commercial hit. Following its international festival run, Adult Adoption received a theatrical run in North America, and held one of the highest box office location averages (Top 10) of any independent film in North America on its opening weekend. It was named a Globe & Mail Critics’ Pick, and featured on their list of “favourite new films of 2023.”

Julian De Zotti brings over a decade of experience as digital series creator, writer and producer to our collaboration, as well as a theatre background that gives him authentic access to the story. Julian has experience selling series internationally — including Ming's Dynasty to Fuse TV (where it was a Top 5 Performing show in their 18-35 demo), and For The Record to European distributor, Mediawan.

Finally, Sarah Angelle is a producer with over a decade of experience in theatre (Alma matter productions) and live performance, now transitioning to working in film and television. Sarah and Ellie first met in University, so while this is the first collaboration of this collective of artist/producers, there is a foundation of trust and respect between its members that we are confident will serve the project very well.
