On May 19, Alex had a severe injury that left his left hind food badly broken. All four phalanges in his leg were broken. Because I didn’t have money to pay for the surgery, I opted to have the vet use a splint to see if the bones would fuse and heal enough for him to be able to use his own (if wonky) foot and leg. Each bandage change cost around $150.

After a second X-ray, none of the bones have fused or healed. And he definitely needs surgery. We were offered two options: put pins in the outer phalanges to help straighten out the whole foot, or amputation, which I have chosen.

However, he can’t have the surgery until I can pay for it, and right now I cannot. And I do not qualify for Care Credit nor do I have insurance for him. I’m asking for donations to make this surgery possible, and to cover the cost of his initial hospitalization and follow up treatment.

Tripod kitties have great lives, and amputation is the most humane and cost-effective way to proceed. From what I’ve heard, with amputation he’ll heal quickly and will no longer have pain.

I am looking to cover the costs of all of Alex’s treatment from this injury. From the emergency vet, bi weekly bandage changes, and the amputation surgery.

The cost of his initial weekend at the emergency vet cost $3,052.17. Bandage changes and the additional X-ray cost $887. The quote for surgery ranges from $1,300-$2,870. This totals to about $6,500.
