Support Alexa's Journey to Recovery
Donation protected
Hi everyone, my name is Alec Vanness, Alexa's twin brother. As so many people are reaching out wanting to find ways to support Alexa, we decided to start a GoFundMe as the medical bills, household bills, and other necessities are piling up. We don't often ask for much, but unfortunately, we are in a time of need. If you haven't been keeping up with Alexa's story, please add me on Facebook where I am posting day-by-day updates. The story begins here:
On Thursday, June 20th at approximately 5:40p, Alexa began the journey of recovery. After suffering several life-threatening injuries from a motorcycle accident on her way home from work, she’s certainly been on a wild ride ever since. Alexa currently lies asleep in a medically induced coma as she has endured these life-threatening injuries. The most critical injury Alexa faces right now is an intracranial hematoma, also known as a brain bleed. Right now, the doctors have inserted a drain near the frontal lobe of her skull to relieve pressure and monitor the brain bleed. She is being closely monitored for the next 24-48 hours as we are still not out of the danger zone. It is too soon to tell what the future looks like in terms of brain function. Although she wore a helmet, Alexa also suffered multiple facial fractures; a broken jaw, cheekbone fractures, orbital fractures, and numerous other facial and skull fractures. Her neck, spine, and lower extremities look “great”, meaning no other broken bones below the neck; however, Alexa suffered a collapsed lung resulting in a chest tube on both the left and right side. Updates are continuously being uploaded to Facebook for those interested in following her story.
At this time, Alexa is having limited visitation but continues to ask for your prayers.
Words cannot express the grief Alexa's family and friends are going through on this journey of recovery. The family does not typically ask for much, but they are in a despite time. Every dollar amount is greatly appreciated and the family is thankful for everyone who's reached out with condolences.
