Hello, my name is Aleksandra, and I am a single mom of three children.
I never imagined I would find myself in such a difficult situation, but today I have to ask for help to keep a safe home for my kids.
Until recently, the father of my children was the one who helped pay our rent. We have been separated for a year, and although he wasn’t involved in our lives, he still contributed financially for the children. However, this time — literally the day before rent was due — he completely stopped supporting us and told me to “figure it out on your own.” He no longer participates in the children’s lives and refuses to take any responsibility as a parent.
I asked my landlord for an extension and tried everything I could to earn enough money to prevent my three children and me from being evicted. But then something happened that I could never have predicted — I was involved in a serious car accident that was not my fault. A woman ran a red light at high speed and crashed into my car.
Right now, I cannot work, my car is damaged, and the insurance investigation will take over a month. Until then, I am left without any income, while our bills continue to grow. I am terrified that we could be evicted at any moment.
I am asking for help so my children and I do not end up on the street right before Thanksgiving and Christmas.
This is the time of year when families should feel safe and supported, but instead I am fighting just to keep a roof over our heads.
I am asking for help so I can pay our rent, take care of my children, and get through this incredibly difficult period while waiting for the insurance process to finish and until I am able to return to work.
Any help — even the smallest amount — would mean the world to us.
Thank you to everyone who reads this, supports us, and doesn’t look away.
