<div>Diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma at 14, Afu’s primary tumor began in his left leg (tibia). Scans revealed it had spread to his lungs, pelvis, abdomen, and lymph nodes, and he was given only a 15% chance of survival beyond 5 years. He underwent 14 rounds of chemotherapy and 43 radiation treatments on various parts of his body. After a brief remission, the cancer relapsed, and Afu underwent 6 more months of treatment before returning to remission.

<div>Eventually Afu returned to what he loves most: football. At Farmington High School in Utah, he started both sides of the ball at wide receiver and cornerback, helping his team win part of the 6A Region 1 Championship. He was named to the All-Region 1st Team and honored with “The True Phoenix Award” at the team banquet.

<div>In December 2024, Afu’s family learned that the cancer had returned with a large tumor in his abdomen and a couple of nodules in his lungs.
