Support Adam's fight with cancer

In June 2017, after months of worsening symptoms, MRIs, and finally a biopsy, we received the news no one wants to get: Adam was diagnosed with a grade III brain tumour. The location of the tumour meant that surgical removal was not an option so Adam began radiation and chemotherapy, but due to the aggressive nature of the tumour he had complications that led him to be hospitalized.  Adam spent 10 weeks at Juravinski Hospital to finish his treatments, where he suffered many setbacks and challenges. The location of the tumour greatly affected his short-term memory so he could not remember why he was in hospital and experienced severe anxiety during radiation treatments. After many unsuccessful attempts at administering his radiation therapy, the team at Juravinski took the extreme measure of fully sedating Adam for almost all of his remaining radiation treatments, the first time the Juravinski Hospital needed to take such measures for an adult patient. The chemotherapy and radiation caused severe fatigue and Adam was sleeping more than 20 hours a day. His muscles weakened and he was eventually bedridden.

After his 10 weeks at Juravinski, Adam was transferred to GNGH in Niagara Falls to be closer to his home, where he stayed for another eight weeks to make sure that he was medically stable. In November, Adam was finally able to go home, but he still requires a high level of care to make sure that all of his needs are met. His wife, Jamie has been off work since June for what was initially going to be a short-term leave to help Adam get through treatment, but she has since become his full-time caregiver.  She will not be able to return to work for the foreseeable future because of his needs.

While Adam is doing better right now it will be a long and hard road to recovery for him and he and Jamie will need all the help and support we can get.

Proceeds raised will allow Jamie to remain at home with Adam to act as his full-time caregiver, and will be used towards medical costs not covered by OHIP or their private insurance.
