Support Accident Victim Alisha Shohab & children

My daughter, Alisha, was recently involved in a serious car accident.  She suffered several fractures including hip, tibia, knee, ankle, toe, wrist, ribs, as well as possible damage to her right shoulder.

Her surgery after the accident lasted over five hours, and her basic recovery is projected at a minimum of three months.  It will be much longer for her to fully recover, and do things such as climbing stairs.  As Alisha is the sole provider for her three children, this is understandably disconcerting.  The children were fortunately not involved in the accident.

Our family is requesting prayers for a full and speedy recovery.

Financially, she needs help for the expenses not covered by insurance.  At a minimum she needs to cover three months of expenses.  At the three month mark, she will need to return to work as that is as long as her company is legally obligated to hold her job.  Nothing is guaranteed after three months if she isn't able to hold the position she originally had or if her company doesn't have openings to accommodate her.

She has not yet received a decision on whether she will receive any amount of disability as the paperwork is still in process as the signatures required of the medical community have just been filed.  We have been told that it could be three plus weeks for a disability determination.  So, she is now approaching five weeks without a paycheck.  If disability is approved, it will be at a percentage of her monthly salary which will possibly barely even cover her rent much less keep a household with three children running.

Wheelchair accessible transports to doctor appointments are not covered at all, and will have to be paid out of pocket.  Any medical equipment she needs once she goes home will have co-pays.  She will also have to figure out how to make her bedroom downstairs as she has been told she will not be able to climb stairs for some time.

She is currently in a nursing facility, and if she is not able to bear enough weight on at least one leg by a certain time, insurance will also discontinue payment.  At that point, we will have to cover some expenses to make our house handicap accessible, and for some needed medical equipment while she continues to heal.

Once she's healed more, and the doctor approves her to bear weight, we have been told insurance may not approve her going back into a nursing facility for physical and occupational therapy that's needed to eventually get her walking.  That will bring more medical expenses and further transportation issues to a daily therapy facility.

Any financial assistance, regardless of amount, will make a profound difference in the months ahead.   We appreciate everyone's love, prayers and support during this time in our lives.
