Hello there. I’m going to be running the New York City Marathon on November 2nd and I was lucky enough to get in through the lottery, which means I’m not required to run for one of the charities affiliated with the marathon. Instead, I am able to use this 26.2 mile run to raise money for whatever cause I’d like…and I would very much like to run for Sunny Stewart’s Scholarship. A scholarship is being set up in Sunny’s name, and while it is still early in its development process and there is a lot to figure out, I’d like to raise some money now so that when the details have been settled and the decisions have been made, the money will already be there to give out.

A few words about Sunny and the Scholarship from Jessica Duffy and Stacy Fulea (two of the Scholarship’s creators):

“Sunshine ‘Sunny’ Stewart was a native to Midcoast Maine. She lived in many places but always returned to her beloved home. She was taken from those who loved her far too early in shocking and unusual circumstances. The entire community has been touched by this event and we all mourn her death and wish to continue to spread her joy for living through a scholarship in her memory.

Sunny was so passionate about the things she believed in. She was always there to lend a hand, always ready for whatever adventure and learning experience was around the corner. She was so driven and so tough. She loved her friends and family fiercely. A scholarship given to another person on their journey for learning is a great way for her to keep helping people like she loved to do. To keep passing it on to another person with a passion for learning for a lifetime to come.

To me this is exactly the kind of thing Sunny was about. Doing hard things, helping others, and caring about her community.”
