Hello friends and family! My poor mommy, my best friend , has broken her elbow from taking a tumble. I know she won’t do this for herself, so I figured I’d set this up to help cover the cost of her surgery for having it replaced. Anything helps! Thank you, also praying for a quick recovery and fast healing!
Here’s her story:Is there any help regarding health insurance in FL?
On Sunday, Feb 2, 2025 just before I was going to do Pilates and take a nice walk, I stopped to water my plants. They are on top of my cupboards, a great place to get sunshine in our city FL apartment with 9’ ceilings.
I grabbed my stool, stepped onto the cupboard and grabbed one of them. I turned to step on the stool and land safely on the floor.
However, when I stepped on the stool it wobbled and I took quite a fall. As I lie on the floor dripping in sweat, nauseous and ready to faint, I realize my body is in shock. I get my composure and pray nothing is broke.
I didn’t have my phone and I knew I’d need help asap! In the adrenaline, I got up and got to my phone in the other room.
Jeff was 45 mins away so we talked in the phone until he arrived. No bones were sticking out and we thought maybe it was badly bruised so we iced it for 6 hours.
By now the pain wasn’t going away so we called a friend who was a paramedic and decided getting pain management was probably the best option and headed for the clinic.
At the clinic they got the best all rays they could considering I could NOT bend my left arm.
It was surely broken… in a couple spots.
I didn’t have insurance so the next day I searched marketplace hoping to get coverage with a prexixting condition. To my surprise, I did.
The next series of event involved 3 orthopedic surgeons, another x ray and cat scan to conclude I had shattered my elbow and needed it replaced.
After fighting with the insurance company, hours and days on the phone working with doctors, surgery centers and waiting on hold with the insurance company, rescheduling my surgery 3 times, I was told I’d have to pay for the surgery out of pocket.
I called marketplace again and was told I’d have to wait for Mar 1 for an effective date. Max out of pocket for surgery would be $2000. However, surgery is scheduled for Feb 18.
I was told by the final ortho that I’d shattered my elbow, fractured another bone and may have damaged nerves and tissue which he would need to fix during surgery.
Immediately after that I will start physical therapy.
