Job Corps programs across the country are shutting down, with New Orleans Job Corps being one of them. As a chef instructor there, I had the privilege of getting to know many young adults whose lives were drastically changed because of the program. New Orleans Job Corps not only changed many young adults' lives for the better but my life as well. I knew that I always wanted to reach culinary arts but only had certifications plus my experience. New Orleans Job Corps gave me a chance to teach and because of that I was even able to go back to school to receive my Bachelor's of Science in Culinary Arts and Food Service Management. June 13, 2025 will be the last day that New Orleans Job Corps will be open to young adults. The staff there asked if I could cater a crawfish boil for everyone on that day (with NOJCC paying for the food) as a positive send-off and celebration for all the great things that have been done there. I agreed, but was then told that they would have to cancel because the funds for the event was not approved. I really would like to still make this event happen there for the students and the staff that are there because they deserve something!
