Support a daughter that has been separated from her mom due to Prison!

Shanita is a single mother of a young daughter. She works hard and she loves her family very much, especially her incarcerated Mother who is currently serving a life sentence without parole. Her mom, a very loving and compassionate woman, has a motion for a reduced sentence being reviewed by the District Attorney. Shanita has had to endure the pain of not being raised by her mom and in turn, she has had to endure visiting her mom in prison since the age of 4 years old. In December of 1991 her father’s life was cut short and the pain of not being raised by either parent is something some of us cannot imagine. Her Paternal Grandmother is her spiritual and emotional support, and has been there to assist with babysitting, and supporting Shanita as much as an elder can.

Shanita now has a 6-year-old for whom she is now trying to express why these visits to the prison is important in keeping the family connected which has become a struggle, trying to raise a daughter as a single mother, support a mother in prison, keep a fulltime job to pay rent, buy food, pay for Video and Collect phone calls has become a struggle for Shanita being a single parent. Shanita does not qualify for food stamps and was actually denied, her employment benefits are minimal and at times, cannot buy food for her and her daughter. Shanita has had so much to deal with growing up with being away from her mom, No one can imagine what she has had to face with trying to convey that type of pain and anguish to a young daughter!

This campaign was created to help Shanita and her child raise the money they need in order to secure permanent and safe housing. Everything raised will go directly to establishing a safe and permanent home and food for Shanita and her young child.
