Support a Black Owned Operated Birth Cottage

Greetings, My name is Racha Tahani Lawler Queen, a Black homebirth mama, wife and midwife of 20 years. I am the CEO and owner of Gather Grounded Midwifery, a Black-owned birth cottage in the Powhatan & Monacan Territory ~ Midlothian, Virginia. Opening this AUGUST 25th 2023, after having to relocate from our original Richmond birthing home due to racism, theft, fraud, reproductive injustice and homophobia.  The NEW location came with NEW expenses that need support covering due to theft & fraud at the previous location we’re still recovering from.  Gather Grounded Midwifery is a safe and welcoming place where Black, Brown, Indigenous, and queer families are prioritized. The birthing cottage features a water birthing suite, where our very own can receive pregnancy, birth and postpartum care in a unique retreat space, in a quiet residential & urban neighborhood. The statistics show that our families are in the most danger during conception, pregnancy, birthing, and postpartum. The birthing home will provide accessible solutions for low-risk families, but is less than 9 minutes from a highly-rated hospital. Gather Grounded Midwifery has a goal to provide families with a sacred place to receive prenatal care, labor, birth in and out of water, and receive postpartum care that's in alignment with their individual, Ancestral and spiritual practices. We will also support and partner with Black businesses that prioritize the healing and protection of Black birthers and families. I am asking for help to raise $100,000 to cover the NEW construction and recover/recoup from the theft at our previous location. These funds will also ensure our admins (Black homebirth moms), and our Black, Brown, Indigenous traditional birthworkers are adequately compensated at The Birth Cottage. The Birth Cottage is secured, now there's some work required before we can officially open. Construction inside is extensive, with the plumbing and electrical costs being the biggest hurdle.  Your generosity and support is APPRECIATED more than you know!!
