Supplies for Detained Kids in Clint, TX

Donation protected
UPDATE SUNDAY JUNE 23RD: The total raised after GoFundMe fees was $2,967.86, surpassing our goal of $2000. We will purchase $2000 worth of supplies for the children in detention, then donate the other $967.86 to Annunciation House in El Paso. This morning we purchased $1609 worth of supplies, and we will spend the remainder of the money allocated for supplies today or tomorrow. Supplies purchased already include toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, diapers, tampons, pads, underwear, socks and antiperspirant. We purchased supplies in accordance with the stated needs of Annunciation House (https://annunciationhouse.org/support/house-needs/) so that we can meet their needs if CBP prevents us from delivering the supplies to the children in detention. We spoke to two CBP officers last night: the first officer (based in El Paso) stated that the situation “is a mess all along the border and we need help,” and that the need for supplies for people in detention is widespread; the second officer, who answered the phone at the Clint Border Patrol Station and seemed to be reading from a script, stated that the children in Clint are receiving daily showers and three meals per day, and they don’t need anything, which clearly contradicts the reporting from the New York Times and other outlets, as well as the testimony of lawyers. We are driving from DFW to El Paso on Wednesday, and will attempt delivery of the supplies to the Clint CBP station on Thursday morning. We cannot get down there any sooner due to work and family commitments. Thanks again to everyone who donated and spread the word!

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Thanks to everyone for your amazing generosity! We have reached our goal! If you were planning to donate, please consider donating to Annunciation House in El Paso or another charity or organization of your choice that works with immigrants and asylums seekers along the southern border. Please do not submit any more donations to this GoFundMe campaign. We will post updates over the next few days re the purchase of the supplies for the children and our travel to the CBP facility in Clint, Texas.

On June 21st, Caitlin Dickerson reported in the New York Times that hundreds of children are being held at the border patrol facility in Clint, Texas, in unsanitary conditions. The children are in desperate need of toiletries, including toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, diapers and sanitary products, as well as water, food and clean clothes. We are seeking financial donations so that we can purchase supplies for the children, which we will then deliver to the CBP facility in Clint, Texas, hopefully as soon as Wednesday, June 26th. If the CBP agents refuse to allow the supplies to be distributed to the children, we will donate the supplies to Annunciation House in El Paso, a shelter for immigrants, and we will document the exchange with CBP in writing, and, if possible, with photos and video. We will then work to have the story disseminated via newspapers and social media. Our primary goal is to deliver supplies to the children, but if that is not possible, we will donate the supplies to Annunciation House and publicize the government and CBP's failure to provide adequate care for the detained children. We hope to buy at least $10 worth of supplies each for 200 children.

ABOUT US: Nathanael O'Reilly, Tricia Jenkins and Jeremy Bennett are educators and parents who live in Fort Worth and Dallas. We are taking action because we believe that all human beings have the right to seek asylum and that the most vulnerable among us, in this case migrant children, especially need care and protection. If the government will not protect and care for the children, citizens must take action.
