Scott was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, teacher, and friend to all who met him in his short 55 years on this earth. Despite his many medical issues including constant daily pain from his broken back and kidney transplant, he greeted each day with a smile thanks to his strong faith in God. His sudden death came with the surprising news to his wife Robin and his daughter Jessica that his life insurance policy had been cancelled back in 2016 in order for him to make payments on the already massive stack of medical bills he had and expenses of daily living because he was too ill to hold a job. It is my belief that he kept this knowledge hidden from my mother (Robin Scent) and my step-sister (Jessica) so that they wouldn't worry and because he had found a kidney donor that would give him many more years on this earth.
They are now struggling to find the money for a funereal and burial so that those who knew him can say goodbye. My mother is also struggling with the debt left behind that she thought would be covered by the life insurance. She is often quoted as being the strongest woman many people know, but she is only human. She cannot work 24/7 to be able to cover the funeral expenses and debt left behind on top of her own day to day bills. She is already losing money from not working this week to grieve. She has missed numerous days of work in this past year to take Scott to the hospital and to his doctor appointments.
$10,000 may seem like a lot of money, but this may not be enough to take all the finical burden off the Scent family. Final arrangements are already being made based on the least expensive option. No person should have to make these type of decisions when saying goodbye to someone they love based on the least expensive choice. Scott was known and loved by many.
