Sunshine's Fight Against Sarcoma

Donation protected
Last fall Sunshine had a cramp behind his knee that was causing him a lot of pain, he went to the ER and they told him he had a tumor. He was sent to Seattle Cancer Care and received his diagnosis: Spindle Cell Sarcoma.

Since that day he has undergone multiple rounds of different chemo infusions, many many trips to the Seattle and countless trips to the ER. The cancer continued to grow and spread to his lungs. Both areas are currently inoperable and the cancer center says that there is no way to save his leg due to it encompassing the nerves and veins. They want to perform an above the knee amputation.

Although it has taken six months, they have finally found a chemo combination that has stopped the growth of the tumor in his leg and shrink the lesion in his chest. Doctors have said the chest lesion is too close to his heart to operate, but if they can get it to shrink there may be other treatments available. Although the tumor in the leg has stopped growing, doctors still believe they would notnot able to save the leg and still recommend an amputation. Even with them finding a combination that works, Sunshine will still have to go through another year or more of chemo.

Sunshine will continue to undergo chemotherapy for the foreseeable future. This means a lot of traveling back and forth to appointments and to Seattle.

Sunshine is currently unable to work and has limited mobility, either using crutches or a wheelchair to get around. His apartment has only a bathroom upstairs which is difficult to navigate for him. He has applied for low income housing but has been told the waiting list is 2-5 years long. He will need to move to a single level apartment soon.

All funds will go towards gas, ferry fees, household bills, and medical necessities not covered by insurance.

Whether you know him by Sunshine, Darryl, Nighthawk (or even Shithead), you know what a wonderful man he is. He is kind, compassionate and does his best to make sure everyone he meets laughs and has a smile on their face. Sunshine loves going to drum group, watching WWE with his family and cooking among so many other things.

Although this has been a huge battle for him, he is a warrior and is #strongerthansarcoma.

We would also like to say thank you from the bottom of our hearts to all the amazing and generous people who have previously donated to Sunshine. Whether it be kind words, money, food or time - thank you, you're amazing. ❤️
