Sunshine Arts-Keep Us Running

Sunshine Arts is an incredibly unique organization in the Greater Philadelphia area. It was the dream of founder Sheila Modglin fifteen years ago and has grown and touched thousands of lives in that amount of time. Recently a tragedy has struck. Sheila was hit by a car while on foot and critically injured. She remains in intensive care and will have a long recovery. She has been the primary fundraiser and has donated a large portion of her salary. She can no longer work, and is in difficult physical condition. She will be in the hospital and rehabilitation for many months to come.

Our organization is now in a precarious financial situation. There is very little money coming in and won’t be for a long time. We must raise money now in order to continue covering our bills and offering free classes and every kind of support, including food to both children and adults in our underserved neighborhood. We are available to our neighborhood every day of the week.
What follows is a video featuring our founder, Sheila, speaking of how she started Sunshine Arts, and how it continued. It also features our artists in residence and a some of our amazing students.

Our goal is to keep Sunshine Arts running for the next two years. Our hope is that when Sheila is completely aware and healthier, she will be thrilled to know that her dream is still going and touching the neighborhood as it always has.

Three artists in residence are living at Sunshine Arts and two of them have for more than a decade. They are running the program even though they are not regularly receiving their stipends.

I am a filmmaker/artist in residence have been for a decade. My name is Kat Lehmer. I am running this fundraiser for all of us who run Sunshine Arts and for all our wonderful students, children and their parents.
