Sunset Cabana Club

Save the Sunset Cabana Club!

Since 1964, the Sunset Cabana Club has given our community countless hours of fun and recreation and for generations it has been a place where families have come together to stay connected to friends, family and community. We want to thank each and every one of you for your support over the years.

As some of you may be aware the Club has seen serious financial setbacks over the last few years. COVID-19 has presented significant challenges as we remain closed in accordance with local government mandates. In addition to losing membership revenue this year, we have seen a 50% drop in membership between 2015 and 2019.  The tree that fell in 2016 required costly repairs that drained our savings and we operate on a limited reserve fund.  COVID-19 has presented incremental challenges, cancelling the normal Swim Team Season, pausing 2020 membership registration, in-person fundraising events, and ultimately halting any incoming funds to sustain the pool. The Sunset Cabana Club is currently at risk of permanent closure due to financial distress and is in dire need of your support! Without your support the Club will close following the 2021 Season.

The Club’s income source has always been pool & swim team memberships which pays for all operating expense for the property and maintenance of the pool. While the pool is open only 5 months out of the year, there are monthly expense of $3,287 ($39,444 annually) throughout the year (PGE, utilities, pool chemicals, maintenance, insurance, county licensing, property mortgage, property taxes, etc.). We rely on our registration fees to pay for each season and have a limited reserve to carry over to the next year.

In addition to the monthly expenses we have current one-time expenses that will require immediate attention and estimated at $15,000. The back fence needs to be replaced, LPFD Compliance repairs and much needed pool covers. Finally, we have an ongoing list of deferred maintenance that includes replacing the 25-year-old heater and pool pumps before they go out, pool resurfacing, sewer repair, as well as the need to replace the slide and swimmer blocks.

The Sunset Cabana Club is maintained by a volunteer Board. All are committed to preserving this community gem. We need your help more than ever to raise funds to save “our” pool.

We understand that many of you are personally facing the same challenge, but if you’re able, please consider making a donation to help sustain the Sunset Cabana Club. Without this funding the future of the Cabana Club is at stake.

Please consider sharing this with your family and friends.
