Sunrise Providence: Green New Deal 2020 Campaign

Welcome to the Sunrise Movement in Providence!
We are a group of young people across Rhode Island scared for our future. We are witness to the devastating effects of climate change in our state, from intensifying storms to depleting fisheries. Meanwhile, the fossil fuel billionaires and corrupt politicians who created this crisis and sold out our future continue to profit off it at the expense of everyone else, especially indigenous people, people of color, and the working class. But against these powerful interests, we are taking action to protect the places and people we love, and will never give up: we will defeat the climate crisis because our future depends on it.
2019 was a huge year for Sunrise in Rhode Island: we grew from one hub in Providence to five all over the state, hired seven full-time Summer Fellows to coordinate our hundreds of volunteers, hosted the Northeast Regional Sunrise Summit and trained 500 new climate activists, and brought together thousands of people to strike for climate action (three times!).
2020 is our chance to turn that incredible momentum into real change. We need to place bold climate action at the top of Rhode Island’s agenda and elect climate leaders across our state who will make a Green New Deal a reality for Rhode Island. That's why we're asking for your help. The amazing work we did in 2019 was made possible by people just like you who gave what they could to the movement. We're calling on you now to build on all that incredible work and win real change in 2020.
We may be young, and those in power may write us off. But with the support of our family, friends, coworkers, teachers, and even strangers, we know we can win a livable future for all.
