Backstory on SUNNY PAIGE TWIDDY:
James mentioned in his first post that Sunny has been having pain and numbness in her legs and feet for many months. Her left foot and leg got so bad last Thursday (11/16/17) that we made yet another trip to an ER...this time to Auburn RMC. They got her in immediately when she told them she hadn’t been able to feel her left foot for over 24 hours.
Long story short, the tests revealed severe Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD)— meaning there was minimal blood flow to all the arteries in her legs and feet. A vascular surgeon at Tacoma General Hospital was consulted and sent the tests to review and he made arrangements to have a bed ready as soon as we arrived at TG (about 3:30 am last Friday 11/17/17.)
Further reports came back that Sunny had a clot in her aorta that, for weeks or longer, had been showering down smaller clots into her kidneys and other organs—and ultimately down into her legs and feet, clogging her arteries.
Her first surgery was performed late morning on Saturday 11/18/17. The surgeon was able to remove the clot in the aorta (miracle!) and placed a stent there to filter further clots and keep blood flowing. A large stent was also placed in the artery just above her inner knee and clot buster meds inserted through a wire to her left foot.
The next day was Sunday 11/19/17 and a second surgery was performed to address the right leg and see if the meds had been effective on the left foot. Sunny received another huge miracle when the brilliant surgeon performed Fasciotomy to relieve pressure and was able to restore blood flow to both legs and feet!
We are told it will be a long road back...and we are taking it a day at a time, but we remain hopeful! At this moment, the family is petitioning friends and loved ones to concentrate their prayers specifically on reducing swelling to be able to close her wounds and for restoring her kidney function.
