Mama Oh's Funeral Funds

Our sweet Mama at the tender age of 29yrs young; found a small lump in her right breast. When she brought this lump to the attention of her family doctor; she was told that that they were just clogged milk ducts and there was no need for concern. Six months later, not only had the 1st lump grown larger but a 2nd lump had appeared. After being examined by her family physician for the second time with the new lump; she was told that she was too young to be concerned about breast cancer. At that point she demanded a second opinion and her family physician reluctantly referred her to an oncologist. The oncologist suspected the lumps to be cancerous and suggested a biopsy immediately. The very next night, Mama was admitted into the hospital for her biopsy. The biopsy was suppose to be a relatively short and uncomplicated procedure. During the surgery, her oncologist appeared to inform us that it was indeed breast cancer. Unfortunately, it had progressed to stage 3 and they requested that they be consented to perform an immediate mastectomy of her right breast. Our family made the heart wrenching decision to consent to the mastectomy and the removal of lymph nodes. It was an invasive and complicated surgery that caused her heart to stop and required a blood transfusion. When she finally awoke from her surgery, she was surrounded by her loved ones; who had the horrendous task of informing her of her current situation. Essentially, she went into surgery praying that the lumps were benign; instead she awoke to the harsh reality that she now had stage 3 breast cancer and was given a mastectomy. From then on, her courageous battle against breast cancer for nearly the next 3 decades had only begun.

Over the next 27yrs, the cancer in Mama’s breast would slowly metastasized to her bones, spine, brain and liver. Even with countless treatments of chemotherapy, radiation, surgeries and medication, nothing could not stop the progression of this wretched disease. Through it all, Mama’s determination would not allow herself to stop fighting this battle head on. Regardless of what she was told by her doctors or test results, she persevered. Mama continued to defy the statistical odds that were against her. Not once did she allow the disease to affect her astounding spirit. Mama refused to let it change her or how she chose to live her life. Somehow she found the strength to bless us with her smile and laughter as often as she possibly could. Her sweet, loving and caring nature continued without a waiver. Anyone who was blessed enough to have been in Mama’s presence; was immediately taken in as one of her own children. Everyone knew that there was always one thing that Mama would do, and that was to feed you. The saying, “Food is Love & Love is Food” was Mama’s number one motto. She stood by her belief that everyone and anyone must be fed, because that was the way she showed her love. Her salutations always consisted of a quick “HI” and most importantly “Have you eaten? Are you hungry?” Even towards the end of her life, when she was unable to consume or hold down food herself; she insisted on making sure everyone had eaten. If she had felt that you were gorged enough on food, the she would then proceed to nurture you in other numerous ways. Mama had one of the most compassionate and empathic souls, one of God’s true Angels to have walked on this Earth. Her capability to always give everyone the benefit of a doubt; or to forgive and protect even the people who had wronged her the most would even make Saints blush in embarrassment. Whether it was humans, animals, or even plants; she loved and cherished everyone and everything the way God intended us to.

They say that the good die young. They say that God puts us on this Earth for a reason, a purpose that only He knows. They say that when you serve your intended purpose on Earth, that God will call you home to eternal paradise. On Friday, December 2, 2016, just a few weeks past Mama’s 56th birthday, God called her to His heavenly home. Mama had served His purpose and she had earned her Angel wings to fly home.God decided that she had fought and endured more than He could ask of her to do anymore. He decided that she would no longer bear any more pain or suffering. He finally freed Mama from the restraints of the disease that slowly consumed and crippled her entire body. Mama now strives in Heaven with all of its glory; and surrounded by the welcoming arms of all God’s other Angels.

Unfortunately, due to some unforeseen and unexpected events that abruptly took place; the monetary funds that were to be used towards Mama’s funeral expenses are now unattainable. Our extended family has contributed as much as they were capable to Mama’s funeral expenses. We have exhausted every possible resource that was available to us. Given the quickness of Mama’s “Home Going”, we are on a very short time frame to complete our monetary obligations for her funeral expenses. Anyone who knows our family, knows that we are not the type of people to EVER ask for help in any shape, way or form. But as they say, there is always an exception to every rule. Unfortunately, this would be the one and only exception to that rule for our family; because this pertains to Mama. If there is anyone who wishes to contribute to Mama’s funeral expenses, our gratitude cannot be expressed by words. We are grateful for any contributions that are made towards Mama’s “Home Going”. We thank each and everyone of you in advance. May God bless you as He has blessed us.
