Summit Shows Must Go On!

The arts are alive in Summit! Rehearsals are underway for LCJSMS’ You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown and Summit High School’s production of Newsies. Staging the shows outdoors during the pandemic increased production costs significantly. As a fan of the school programs, your support is needed. Learn more:

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic and the multitude of adjustments required for every aspect of a production, SHS Director Anne Poyner and LCJSMS Director Julia Cicchino and their Creative Teams are preparing for You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown in mid-May and for Newsies in early June. Both will be performed outdoors in the new SHS Performing Arts Garden. The students involved are thrilled to have this opportunity!

Together with Building Principals and the District Administration, the SHS Performing Arts Garden was determined to be the best location for a run of shows in late Spring, when the weather would be more favorable than March when the musicals have traditionally been staged.

The SHS Performing Arts Garden must be transformed into a suitable venue. Since the shows will not be performed in an Auditorium that is outfitted with most all that is needed to stage a high-caliber production, additional expenses, specifically to create a stage and to rent both lighting and a sound system is required.

Both Creative Teams stepped up to the challenge with their typical steadfast commitment to the success of the programs. Since the performing arts are an integral part of Summit Public Schools, the Schools and District Administrations are proud to support the tremendous undertaking when most other schools around the country cannot even fathom producing a live production. The Administrations are truly supportive of the directors’ determination to proceed and their dedication to providing students an educational and enriching co-curricular experience; however, the District is not able to financially support the productions to the extent needed to comply with social distancing and other COVID-19 protocols.

Hilltopper Stage Productions, the nonprofit production company for SHS Performing Arts, is appealing to the Summit Community and fans of the school programs to help underwrite the COVID-related expenses in an effort to ensure the sustainability of the schools’ productions in the future.

While a contribution does not guarantee a seat in the audience, your support is guaranteed to make an impact!
