Summer Program for Refugee Students

Donation protected
Send our recent immigrant and refugee children to summer camp!

At my school in South Philadelphia, we have a population of ESL (English as a Second Language) students of approximately 33%.  These students are mostly refugees from places like Myanmar (Burma), Nepal, Congo, Pakistan, and Central America.  With their families, they have fled persecution, ethnic cleansing, drought, human trafficking, and gang violence.

Already at this early age, these children have seen unimaginable things.  While they readjust to their new lives in the United States, and as they learn English, they are making friendships and experiencing what it is to just be a kid.

We would like to continue their progress in the language and deepen their friendships and social connections by sending them to a summer camp in their neighborhood.  "EducationWorks (www.educationworks.org)," a reputable program in Philadelphia, will be running a summer camp program at the students' school.  They will have activities such as theatre trips, swimming, crafting, structured outdoor play, and games.  They will also have breakfast, lunch, and snack provided.

Most families live well below the poverty level, and cannot pay the (quite reasonable!) camp fee of $100 per student for the summer.  Please contribute to these students' education, and let them experience a fun and educational summer!
