Summer Law Program for Carlee B

Donation protected
My name is Carlee Brown, I am fifteen and in the ninth grade. I attend Woodbury High School, in Woodbury New Jersey, and I am a straight A student. In school I do my best to participate and maintain a 4.0 GPA by turning in my assignments on time with 100% effort. I am also enrolled in the AVID (Advancement Via Independent Determination) program, which helps students adapt college readiness skills, such as organization, collaboration, and critical thinking, while encouraging students to challenge themselves and strive for higher goals. I actively support my school by participating in multiple extracurricular activities as well as supporting my fellow classmates through attending, encouraging, and volunteering in different after school areas. Some of the activities I participate in include traveling choir, poetry club, and marching band. Next semester I would like to add Art club, Women’s choir, and jazz band.  Along with my active academic schedule I am also one of five children. At home, I am a major support for my mother and father. I maintain regular family duties, that include babysitting my 10 year old, 3 year old, and 19 month old siblings, while making sure that I manage my time to complete schoolwork. I am interested in criminal justice and aspire to attend law school after graduating high school.

Justice is the main reason why I want to be a lawyer. This world today is filled with so much injustice and cruelty that I want to make a change. Being a lawyer is my way of making that change. Social media is where I see a lot of trials that have went terribly wrong just because of race, gender, or sexuality. A person shouldn’t go to jail because of something they can’t control. A person should go to jail if and only if they are guilty. As a lawyer I want to get justice for those who can’t. I will be a fair lawyer who will try to make this world a better place by working hard and fighting fair. I have always looked up to lawyers because it takes hard work and dedication to be a good lawyer, and even when you are losing a case you must act with confidence to show you haven’t given up. By the time I am done being a lawyer I want to have made people happier and made lives better through getting justice for those I serve.

I have been invited to attend Intensive Law & Trial Program through Stanford Law School in Stanford, California, a program held specifically for high achieving high school students, July 2018. This 10 day program will give me an opportunity to learn from subject matter experts and preeminent legal professionals, including Stanford Law School professors and take part in a competitive mock trial simulation. Intensive Law & Trial will not only help me experience what it will be like in the court room, but it will also help me to hone my leadership abilities to be more effective in college, career, and life. I will travel from New Jersey to California, where I will stay on campus in dormitory style accommodations. I will have many opportunities to learn as well as meet other students with similar academic and career goals. This program and experience will help to propel me towards my ultimate goal of becoming a lawyer and will give me competitive edge when applying to college.

As I am sure you can imagine this program and trip has a considerable price tag for the average high school student. The program itself has an enrollment cost of $3995, this does not include airfare (approx $450), airport transfers, or living expenses during the 10 day program. Enrollment deadline is March 20, 2018, but donations can be made and will be accepted until July 2018.

I am writing this request for donation/sponsorship, to allow me the ability to attend this prestigious program. With four siblings, one of whom is already in college, it is understandable that my family will need some assistance in getting me to the Intensive Law & Trial Program. I appreciate any donation you are willing to give.

I thank you in advance for your time and consideration,

Humbly,

Carlee A. Brown
